Bringing Pets to Madagascar

Quarantine requirements differ according to the type of animal. A health certificate issued no more than three days prior to the date of arrival in Madagascar from a veterinarian in the country in which the animal was previously located must be provided. Dogs must have a valid rabies vaccination within the past six months.

Unvaccinated pets (dogs and cats only) under three months old may enter the country, but there are additional regulations that must be met. Certain aggressive breeds of dogs are prohibited from entry.

Pets entering the country for commercial purposes require additional forms and different rules apply.

Importation of the following dogs is prohibited: Staffordshire and American Staffordshire (pit-bulls), Mastiff or Boerbull, Tosa and Rottweiler.
